Jewish Wedding
What is a Jewish wedding like? The Jewish wedding is celebrated by the sea, under the sky, as a symbol of the blessing given by God to the patriarch Abraham, that his children will be ‘like the stars in the sky.’ During the ceremony, the ketubah (marriage contract) is read in the original Aramaic text. The chatan (groom in Hebrew) accepts various responsibilities outlined in the ketubah. His primary obligations include providing food, shelter, and clothing for his wife, the kallah (bride in Hebrew), and attending to her emotional needs. The protection of the rights of a Jewish woman is so important that the marriage cannot be formalized until the contract is completed.
